TWO Comet country schools have donated almost �6000 worth of clothes to orphans in Afghanistan.
Robert Bloomfield in Shefford and Etonbury in Arlesey have both recently become academies.
With the wording on the Shefford school’s uniforms consequently rendered obsolete, and with more than 100 Etonbury jumpers produced with the wrong logo, uniform service Affordable Schoolwear looked into donating the clothes to a good cause.
The Afghan Appeal Fund aims to raise awareness of the plight of people in Afghanistan, particularly children, and raise money to help them, primarily through education.
On behalf of the charity, soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan from Bulford Camp near Salisbury offered to put the much-needed clothes with their kit when it was shipped to the war-torn country.
A total of 525 sweatshirts, 480 polo shirts and about 75 fleeces have now been sent to Afghanistan to be given to orphans.
A spokesman for the two academies said: “Hopefully the children, who have very little in a very hostile and unforgiving country, will have some warmth from the jumpers, as well as the knowledge that people around the world do care.”
