PUNTERS at a village boozer have been digging deep in their pockets to in a bid to boost care and facilities for their community.
Regulars of the Rose and Crown pub in Ashwell have decided to help groups connected with the village raising �115 for Ashwell Playgroup, �645 for The Phoenix Deaf Charity, �185 to youth football club Ashwell Academicals, �400 for Children in Need and proceeds from the weekly meat raffle are set to go to the Ashwell Scouts.
“People in Ashwell have always been very willing to raise money for charity – but this past year we have concentrated on benefiting those closer to home in our community and the support we have received has been heart-warming, especially when people are feeling the ‘pinch’ themselves,” said Sue Scarrott, manager at the High Street pub.
“We are holding a Charity Race Night on Saturday, March 19, and all proceeds raised will be going to Ashwell Football Club which is busy raising funds for new kit.
“Anybody who fancies joining us for a fun-filled evening is very welcome - the evening kicks off at 8pm.”
The pub is also being used as a collection point for any unwanted CDs or DVDs – the football club are asking anyone who has any to drop them at the Rose and Crown.
