Over a hundred people turned out to have their say on the future of a town centre park.

Hitchin residents of all ages attended the North Herts District Council and Groundwork Hertfordshire consultation in Bancroft Park on Saturday to tell the council how the facilities could be improved.

Suggestions included a caf with toilets, more facilities for older children, fitness equipment for adults, music in the bandstand and removing paths to increase the green space.

Portfolio holder for leisure at the council, Ian Knighton, said: “It was great to see the whole community working together to find ways to improve the park and I would like to thank them for their support.”

NHDC and Groundwork Hertfordshire will use the results of the consultation to produce detailed plans and as a basis to secure grant funding for the scheme.

Council officers aim to have the plans on public display in the autumn and if applications for funding are successful work could begin in spring next year.
