A Stotfold boy is overjoyed after a pub landlord replaced the bike he had saved up for for months after it was stolen.

Twelve-year-old Kieran Good saved up his birthday and Christmas money to buy himself a Carrera Vengeance mountain bike, only for it to be stolen from his back garden in Daisy Lane a week later.

Kieran’s mum Sorel Wilson told the Comet: “He saved all his birthday and Christmas money and he was checking the price daily to see if he could afford it yet. “At the end of November when the black Friday sales started kicking in, he could finally afford to buy the bike.

“It was then stolen from our back garden in early December. He was devastated, so upset. It was heartbreaking really.”

Left upset and with little hope of getting his bike back, Kieran’s mum took to Facebook to find out if people in the area had any information

Gary Connelly – who runs the Fox and Duck pub in Stotfold – saw Sorel’s post, and thought he might be able to help.

He said: “Sorel is a customer of ours and she and her family are lovely. I didn’t even know Kieran, but I saw the post and I just thought it’s so bad that somebody could do that.”

Gary asked his best friend Adam Smith – who is the branch manager for Halfords in Wembley – about getting a replacement, where he was told they usually sell for £365, but he would see what he could do.

After speaking to his manager, Adam managed to get the bike for Kieran for free.

“I had a little chat with Kieran before we gave him his new bike,” Gary added.

“I told him that good things happen to good people.

“To see his little face when he walked through and saw the bike was just awesome.”

Kieran was given his new, upgraded bike last week at the Fox and Duck, where he was both delighted and shocked.

Sorel continued: “We wanted it to be a surprise, and his face was an absolute picture when he saw it, he was really over the moon.

“We know Gary from the pub, but not on a personal basis, which is another reason why we were so overwhelmed that he arranged something like this for us.

“We want to let people know how grateful we are, especially Gary, and Adam – who I’d never even met before – for making Kieran so happy.”
