PROTESTORS gathered outside Luton Town Hall this morning (Friday) in opposition to plans to build 5,500 homes on Hertfordshire countryside.

The group from action group Keep East Of Luton Green were making their opposition known to councillors from Luton Borough and South Beds councils who will choose their preferred option for Luton's expansion today.

Councillors on the joint planning committee are expected to approve a 10,000 hectare development to the east of Luton, mainly on Hertfordshire Green Belt, as well as approve a northern bypass into the county. They will also decide on whether to adopt proposals for an eastern bypass to Luton airport, again into Herts.

North Herts District Council, Herts County Council, MPs and action groups are opposed to the plans.
