A CARE home looks set to be knocked down and relocated on a former school site.

Newhaven Care Home for the elderly was built in 1968 and is located in Drakes Drive in Stevenage.

But if Hertfordshire County Council is given planning permission the care home will be relocated to the site of the former Pin Green School.

The application proposes the demolition of the care home and the redevelopment of the site for residential purposes.

A council spokesman said: "The aim is to improve standards at the care home and increase capacity from 40 beds to 60 beds."

A council review concluded that Newhaven was no longer suitable to be used as a care home because of its age and configuration.

In their planning application it states that during a review of primary schools in Stevenage, the council agreed that Pin Green School should be closed and redeveloped to incorporate a care home and residential development.
