A prolific thief from Stevenage who stole items including electronics, razors and a charity box during a spate of shoplifting has been jailed.

Clive Clarke-Ingram, of Walden End, was jailed for 22 weeks after he admitted 10 counts of theft before magistrates at Hatfield Remand Court.

The 36-year-old had pleaded not guilty to three of the thefts, but changed his plea on the day he had been set to stand trial last week.

Chairman of the bench Stephen Godshaw noted his many previous convictions while passing sentence.

The court heard that Clarke-Ingram had stolen a Rotary charity collection box in Stevenage on March 8, electronic items from Maplin on March 17 and Esso on March 16 and 18, and meat from Iceland in the town centre on March 19.

He also admitted stealing chocolate from WHSmith in Hitchin on January 8, and razors from Home Bargains in Stevenage on February 18 and 19, cleaning products from Home Bargains in Stevenage on April 6, and a jumper from Matalan in Stevenage on May 10.

Clarke-Ingram was already subject to a suspended sentence imposed on March 15 for two thefts of DVDs in Stevenage earlier that month.

In addition to the prison time, he must pay a total of £271.06 in compensation.
