Prime Minister Theresa May has called a snap General Election.
The Conservative leader announced this morning the date of Thursday, June 8.
Speaking outside Downing Street she set out the reasons for calling the vote.
She said the only way to “guarantee certainty and stability for the years ahead is to hold this election and seek your support for the decisions I must take”.
Downing Street had previously denied a vote would be held before the next scheduled poll which was due to be held in 2020.
Reaction from our local MPs will follow.
