FOSTER carers in Biggleswade have been applauded by the county council for their work.
The six Biggleswade carers were among 20 who had completed a total of 170 years' service.
They met at an event to mark long service awards given by Bedfordshire County Council's fostering service.
County councillor David Reedman, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Our foster carers are very special people. These awards are just a token of our immense appreciation of their hard work and dedication.
"The quality care and the safe environments they provide for young people are of tremendous value to the county council and they make a real difference for the young people they look after."
The county council has 235 children in foster care and hopes to recruit another 30 carers in the county during the coming year.
If people are interested in becoming foster carers they should call 01234 276728. Information is also on the county council website at www.bedford shire.gov.uk
