POWER failed in a town centre, leaving shops in darkness and without heating for much of the day.
Electricity supplies to Hitchin town centre were disrupted today (Tuesday), affecting around 25 premises in Market Place and Sun Street.
The blackout began just before 12.30am after an underground cable became faulty.
Power returned to some shops around lunchtime, although others remain in darkness as EDF Energy engineers work to repair the fault.
EDF Energy has apologised for the inconvenience.
