An inspirational mother and daughter from Potton are set to take on the challenge of walking 26.2 miles to raise money and awareness for a breast cancer charity.

Sian Taylor and her daughter Bronwyn Plowman are taking part in the MoonWalk – a midnight walk across London which started as a one-off fundraising event that has now blossomed into multi-million pound grant-giving charity Walk The Walk which has raised more than £113 million for vital breast cancer causes.

The walk came into being 20 years ago when 13 women walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to fundraise for breast cancer – and Sian and Bronwyn will soon be among the 450,000 walkers since then who have taken on challenges for the charity.

The walk is open to those 13 and older, with Bronwyn – who attends Potton Middle School – celebrating her first birthday as a teenager 15 days before the event on May 13.

Teacher Sian, who is head of food at Stratton Upper School in Biggleswade, told the Comet: “Both sides of our family have ben touched by cancer and we just feel it is important to raise awareness and as much money as possible.

“I’m really proud of Bronwyn. There can’t be many children of her age who are doing such a thing.

“It’s not just the distance it’s the walk through the streets of London at midnight which could be daunting. But she’s so determined as she’s always wanted to join me on some of my charity fundraisers in the past – and now she’s got the chance.”

Bronwyn added: “The challenge of walking 26.2 miles is nothing compared to someone who is facing the challenge of beating cancer.

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Mum Sian is also set to take on the challenge of two open water swims and a 100km walk later this year for Walk The Walk.
