Improvements to a children’s tunnel in a Potton park are now complete – but youngsters will have to wait a little longer to be able to enjoy it once again.

The tunnel at Henry Smith Playing Fields has been out of use since Thursday last week for works which included raising the tunnel, adding a soakaway, turfing and grass matting. These were completed on Tuesday.

A Potton Town Council spokesman told the Comet: “We are hoping that it will be open again for half term.

“We initially wanted the works done in the summer, but it was too hot for it to go ahead.

“Before the work, the tunnel was like a mucky bath, and we want children to get the most benefit out of the play area, which is why the improvements have taken place.”

The council has asked youngsters and their parents to stay out of the tunnel area until the orange fencing has been removed to allow the turf to establish.

If the weather conditions are on their side, it could reopen on Friday next week.
