Police have warned of a possible scam in Stevenage after unsolicited scaffolders yesterday visited at least one address in the town, falsely claiming to be council contractors.

The scaffolders came to a home in Jessop Road and said they were working on behalf of Stevenage Borough Council.

The homeowner checked with the council, who confirmed that this was not the case. When asked to leave, the visitors went without incident.

If you’re approached by anyone claiming to be working for the borough council and are not expecting them, you can check by calling the repairs and maintenance team on 01438 242242.

If such people try to do work that you do not want or are not expecting, call police on 101.
