Poppy collectors for the Royal British Legion have been out in force across north east Bedfordshire ahead of armistice day on Saturday.

People will gather for a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who fell in the First World War and all conflicts since on the 99th anniversary of the truce which ended the conflict.

In Biggleswade there will be a special Armistice Day service on Saturday from 10.45am.

There will be readings and prayers before a rendition of the Last Post and a two minutes silence at 11am.

On Sunday there will be a remembrance day parade starting at Biggleswade war memorial at 10.45am. Many groups of Brownies, Scouts and Guides will accompany the parade along with Biggleswade Sea cadets members of the Royal Air Force 49 Inkerman battery, the Royal British Legion and the town mayor and councillors.

There will be separate remembrance events in Sandy.

On Sunday at 10.50am a parade will set off and march from Swan Lane to the Sandy town war memorial. At 11am there will be an Act of Remembrance and wreath laying before the parade proceeds to St. Swithun’s Church for a remembrance service. At 12pm, following the service, the parade will reform and march past the saluting base at Shannon Court, High Street, en route to Sandy Market Square where it will be dismissed.

In Potton on Sunday a remembrance parade will take place from 10:15am in the town square then move to Potton Cemetery for the laying of the wreaths at 11am. Refreshments will be served after the service for all attending in the community centre in Brook End.
