POP mogul Pete Waterman helped Stevenage Loco Society (SLS) celebrate its golden jubilee. He was guest speaker at the society's last meeting and gave a talk about a major love in his life - railways. Before he carved a career in the music industry, Pete was a railwayman. He has also played a part in the privatised railway industry over the last 15 years, owning a major charter train business, creating an engineering base at Crewe for the overhaul of steam locos and, for a short time, being a co-owner of the Flying Scotsman. "He was an excellent speaker and having him agree to come to Stevenage was a real coup for the SLS," said Adrian White, the society's fixtures secretary.
