Police are still trying to find a man wanted for sentencing in connection with a drugs robbery that went tragically wrong and left a Stevenage man dead from stab wounds.

Christopher Mooney, 36, of Haygarth, Knebworth, is wanted for failing to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on March 24 for sentencing, in connection with the robbery which took place at a house in Long Leaves, Stevenage on April 21 last year.

Mooney was one of a gang of three robbers who planned in advance to rob drugs from dealer Destao Pedro - then 18, who had just returned from stocking up his supply in London.

When they burst into the property one of the gang – 47-year-old Mark Altabas – got into a scuffle with Pedro in which he sustained stab wounds, and later died.

Pedro was cleared of his murder in January this year, but Mooney and a third gang member, Stuart Cuthbert, were charged with conspiracy to rob.

Mooney is known to frequent the Knebworth and Stevenage areas, but also has links to Royston.

Police have urged members of the public not to approach Mooney if they see him, and to call 999.

Mooney and Cuthbert were due to be sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on April 5 but will now face sentence at Snaresbrook on May 4 if Mooney is recaptured.
