POLICE have quashed rumours circulating about the attempted kidnapping of children in the Stevenage area.

The Comet had received reports from members of the public about people trying to lure children into their cars in Great Ashby and St Nicholas Park in Stevenage.

A spokesman for Herts Police said the rumours stem from one allegation of common assault on an eight-year-old boy in Stevenage.

Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Simon Tabert said: “We are aware of this incident and have taken appropriate action.

“There have been no further reports of suspicious activity of this nature, however we will continue to conduct local patrols to help put people’s minds at ease.”
