POLICE today (Tuesday) issued an appeal for witnesses and information following an assault in Stevenage on July 9.

At around 4.45pm a man in his 40s had been walking on a footpath in Broadhall Way near to the Chequers Inn at Bragbury End when a Volkswagen van pulled up next to him.

The driver got out of the vehicle and pulled the man onto the verge, shouted at him and punched and kicked him. The driver then got back into the van and drove off.

Pc Nathan Lambert from the intervention team based at Stevenage Police Station said: "I am sure that Broadhall Way would have been quite busy at this time and I would urge anyone who may have seen what happened or who has any information about the incident to contact police."
