Police are investigating claims by a Hitchin woman, who says she has watched three of her cats die of Strychnine poisoning.

Emma Owen of Heathfield Road, lost her third cat in 6 months last week, and suspects someone is putting down rat poison not realising they are endangering pets.

The mother of three, who paid out around 700 in vet's fees trying to save her animals, said: "I think it's probably people putting stuff down in the garden or at the back of the shops and not realising its harmful.

"They have crawled back home and because their liver and kidneys pack up, everything packs up. It's a cruel and painful way to go.
