POLICE are urging children and their parents to be vigilant after a man indecently exposed himself to a 14-year-old girl.

It happened at the King George V playing fields off Fairlands Way, Stevenage, on Monday morning.

The girl was walking with a friend when she saw a man in the bushes committing an indecent act. She then ran away.

The suspect is described as white, of slim build, between 35 and 40 years old and around 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall with dark hair which had grey bits in it. He was wearing a red top and blue jeans.

Insp Mark Kenny said: "This may well be a one-off incident. However, we would urge parents and children to be extra vigilant when they are walking in parks or around Stevenage.

"If you see a man matching the description then please tell the police straight away. We have already increased our visible police presence in the area to try and identify the man and arrest him."
