THE person responsible for painting a graffiti "tag" in various locations across Stevenage town centre and Old Town is being hunted by police.
The tag often has the initials WB on it and resembles a cartoon character.
Pc Jen Pulley from Stevenage neighbourhood team said: "This kind of random vandalism is pointless but can have such a negative impact on the environment.
"Unsolicited graffiti is criminal damage - a criminal offence - and you can be arrested for it and end up with a criminal record.
"If you know who is doing it or think you recognise the 'tag', please get in touch by ringing the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
