A police appeal has been launched after a woman was physically assaulted in Biggleswade on Wednesday night.

The woman was walking along Chestnut Avenue at about 9.30pm when a men attacked her and attempted to steal her handbag.

After the woman screamed, the offender – described as wearing a hooded jacket with a scarf covering his face – ran off in the direction of Biggleswade Library.

Investigating officer PC Jay Watts said: “I’m appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or who noticed a man acting suspiciously in the area at the time to contact us.

“The victim believes that a car drove past as the incident was taking place, so we’re particularly keen to speak to the driver of that car.”
