DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a 90-year-old pensioner was robbed in his own home by four men last night.

It happened between 9.45pm and 10.00pm when four offenders forced the front door of a house in Trinity Road, Stotfold, and confronted a man who was in bed.

They ransacked his bedroom and demanded cash, one of the men pushed the man down in his bed when he attempted to sit up. The offenders escaped with a quantity of cash and the victim's bank card.

DS Louisa Glynn said the offenders were white, aged between 30 and 35 years old, 5ft 5ins tall and of average build. One of them was wearing a hat and black gloves.

She added: "This is a despicable offence particularly when the offenders target the home of an elderly man. We would urge anyone who may have seen the men hanging around the area, making their escape, or getting into a vehicle to contact us.

"Although police are doing all they can to find the offenders, they want to remind the elderly to keep rear doors, in addition to front doors, locked. Always use a spy hole and door chain, insist on identification from callers and if you are in any doubt keep them out and dial 999."
