Police are appealing for witnesses after a man led police on a car chase through Stevenage before dumping his car and running off.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and information after the driver of a green Mitsubishi L200 failed to stop when requested after pulling out of a lay by on Julians Road and driving off at speed at around 11.30pm on Thursday July 28.

The vehicle was followed along Fairlands Way before coming to a halt in Telford Avenue. It is thought the driver ran off into Fairlands Valley Park.

Detective constable Barry Townsend said: “I am appealing for anyone who saw this vehicle in the lay by or who was driving the vehicle to come forward. Was there anything suspicious prior to the vehicle driving off? Did you see a man running off from the vehicle or discarding any items in the lakes?

If you have information which could help the investigation, call Dc Townsend on 01438 75 72 74 or via the non-emergency number, 101.

A 25-year-old Stevenage man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
