A police dog proved his worth this week when he helped catch a suspected criminal.

German shepherd Tyler was dispatched to find a man suspected of assaulting a woman at a house in Canterbury Way, Stevenage.

Police were called to the scene at 1.30am on Wednesday after reports that a woman had been scratched by the man and a cooker damaged.

He had fled the scene before the police arrived but, with Tyler’s help, the police managed to locate and arrest him on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

The 31-year-old man of no fixed address has been released on police bail until Monday.
