A 16-year-old pedestrian was allegedly punched by a driver in Baldock High Street at 3.40pm on Friday afternoon when crossing at the junction of Mansfield Road.
The victim reported the driver motoring round the corner and beeping at him repeatedly before getting out of the car to shout and swear at him.
He then walked away, but allegedly promptly returned and punched the boy.
The driver then got back into his black Mercedes ML class SUV and continued down Mansfield Road.
He is described as a middle-aged white man with short dark brown hair, wearing a bright red polo shirt.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, who knows the number plate of the vehicle, or knows the driver.
