POLICE are appealing to the public who may have witnessed a car being driven dangerously and erratically in Letchworth GC on Sunday to contact them.

The incident began at around 7.30pm when a silver Ford Escort convertible was stolen from Ickleford and driven to Letchworth GC.

Between approximately 8.50 and 9.10pm a man is alleged to have driven the vehicle along Stotfold Road, Icknield Way and Mullway in a dangerous manner. During this time the vehicle is also believed to have been driven erratically in the car park of the Wilbury pub on Wilbury Hills Road, Letchworth GC.

Investigating officer Dc Will Ainsworth, said: "The driver of the vehicle was reported to have created a real commotion with the car.

"There must be people from the local area who saw it being driven between Ickleford, Letchworth and the surrounding area.

"I am appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the car to get in contact. I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who feels they know who the man driving the car could be."

* A 24-year-old man from Letchworth GC has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle. He has been bailed and is due to return to Stevenage police station today (May 6).
