Police are appealing for help after a man tried to snatch cash from a Stevenage post office till.

Officers want to speak to anyone with information about the incident at the At Your Convenience Post Office in Archer Road, Stevenage at 3.48pm on Saturday, when a man queued up to pay for a drink and then attempted to grab cash when it was his turn to pay.

He was unsuccessful and left the shop empty handed.

The offender is described as white, in his early twenties. He was wearing a dark baseball cap with ear flaps, dark jogging bottoms and white trainers. He also wore a distinctive jacket with black sleeves and back with thick white vertical stripes at the sides going up across the shoulders to the neck. The front of the jacket was white with three thin black vertical stripes down each side. The offender was also wearing a grey hoodie under the jacket.

Detective Sergeant Gez Ellis from Stevenage Local Crime Unit said: “The description of the offender’s clothes is quite distinctive. If you have any information about this crime, please ring the non emergency number 0845 33 00 222 quoting crime number E1/11/368.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
