POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following an alleged assault that took place in Norton Road, Letchworth, close to the garden centre last Saturday.

The incident is believed to have occurred between noon and 12.45pm, when a woman ran away from a silver Honda car following an altercation with a man in the vehicle. The man is then alleged to have followed the woman and assaulted her.

Shortly after this a couple in a blue car stopped at the scene of the altercation and offered assistance to the woman. The man then drove away from the scene.

Investigating officer, DC Simon Goodship, said: "We are treating this very seriously and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident occur to get in touch.

"We are also very keen to speak to the driver and passenger of the blue vehicle who assisted the woman - any information they provide could prove crucial to our investigation."

A 22-year-old man from Arlesey has been arrested in connection with this incident and has been police bailed.
