Police have launched an appeal for information following an alleged aggravated burglary in Hitchin in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It was reported that intruders were disturbed at an address in Roundwood Road sometime between 2am and 2.30am.

A man inside the property was injured during the incident and is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Nothing appears to have been taken from the home.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

It is thought the incident may also be linked to a second crime where a vehicle was broken into in nearby Grovelands Avenue around the same time.

Det sgt Carolyn Taylder said: “Enquires are currently being carried out to establish the circumstances around what happened and police patrols have been increased in the area by way of reassurance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hitchin Local Crime Unit via the non-emergency number 101.”

Alternatively, if you have any information about this incident you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will never need to go to court.
