POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a bag was stolen from a car in Asda car park in Stevenage on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at 2.30pm at the car park on Monkswood Way. A woman was loading her shopping into her car when she was approached by a man who was driving a royal blue saloon car. He got out of the car, placed a map on the bonnet and asked her for directions.

It is believed that whilst the woman was being distracted a second offender removed her bag from her car.

Detective Sergeant Mark Corkin said: "We believe the man had the woman distracted for a fair amount of time and he was described as quite flamboyant whilst asking for directions.

"I would like to talk to anyone who was in the car park at the time and may have seen this man with his map on the bonnet of the car, or the second offender removing the bag.

"If you can help, please call me via the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.
