POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following the theft of scrap metal in Letchworth GC on Monday morning.

The incident happened at the old North Herts District Council depot in Icknield Way at around 9.30am when a person entered the premises and removed scrap metal from a secure container.

The offender then made off in a vehicle down Icknield Way towards the town centre.

Investigating officer Pc Richard Fox said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about what happened to contact police.

“A member of the public gave some information to a council employee and I am particularly keen to speak with this person as they may have vital information as part of my investigation.”

* A 25 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently on police bail.
