POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following an arson attack at a Stevenage shopping centre last week.

A number of small fires were set behind Argos at the Roaring Meg Retail Park between 1am and 2am on Thursday, which caused damage to the rear of the store.

Investigating officer DC Geoff Scarborough said: “I am interested in speaking to people who were in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who feels they may know who was responsible for setting these fires.

“Do you know someone from the local area who was returning home in the early hours of the morning smelling of smoke?”

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Scarborough via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 citing crime reference number E1/10/6365. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy from Stevenage were arrested on suspicion of arson last week.

No further action was taken against them.
