If you’ve got a stack of unwanted or out of date electrical items cluttering up a cupboard, here’s the chance to get shot of them.
All you have to do is head to Hitchin’s Woodside car park between 9am and 2pm on Saturday, October 18, to take advantage of a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) session organised by North Herts District Council and contractors Veolia.
Small electrical items such as IT and home entertainment equipment, kitchen gadgets and general household items will all be collected in and sent for recycling rather than to landfill sites.
Textiles, clothes and shoes can also be accepted and free bags of Ace of Herts compost, donated by contractors Cumberlows, will be given away on a first come basis.
Councillor Peter Burt, the authority’s environment portfolio holder, said: “As electrical items can’t be put in the household grey recycling bins, these free collection events have proven really popular in the past.
“If you want to get rid of all those small electrical items which clutter up the home, make sure you do so in an environmentally safe and cost efficient way.”
Larger items, such as fridges and freezers, cannot be collected at this event but can be taken to recycling centres in Letchworth, Royston and Stevenage - see www.wasteaware.org.uk for details of these sites or call 0300 1234 051
For more information on the WEEE event go to www.north-herts.gov.uk and search for ‘waste events’.
