Plane crash on motorway causes gridlock on A1(M)

A PLANE which hit an electricity pylon in an airfield near the A1(M) has caused traffic misery in Comet country this afternoon (Friday).

The crash, which happened in Peterborough at around 2.15pm, has caused traffic to come to a standstill in both directions, with traffic also moving slowly in the area.

Three ambulance crews from Peterborough and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene, as well as police and fire services.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “At present our crews are still at the scene working closely with the fire and police service.”

People are being advised to seek an alternative route, with the motorway shut both ways between junctions 17 and the junction for the A47 Wansford.
