Pett hopeful Stevenage can put on a ‘good show’ against Morecambe

The game against the Shrimps is the first of two this Easter weekend with Boro also set for the long-haul journey up to Carlisle United on Easter Monday.

Boro go into the weekend on the back of a 4-0 defeat at Colchester United last weekend, but on home soil they have won eight matches in a row and are currently fifth in the League Two table and five points clear of the team just outside of the play-offs, Blackpool.

Asked if he has seen visiting sides take a different approach at the Lamex since Stevenage have been on their fantastic run of home form, Pett told the Comet: “Yes. If a team sees Stevenage are in fifth place then they will sit back a lot more against us.

“We’ve seen that a bit more in recent games and we need to be more patient and break teams down.

“Sometimes we’ve surprised other teams with how well we are playing with the ball at our feet and maybe teams have sat back and have tried to counter-attack, but this is something that we have been working on.”

On Saturday’s defeat, Pett said that ‘sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you were beaten by the better team on the day’, but given Boro’s form at home the 25-year-old is hopeful that his side can bounce back against the Shrimps.

“We didn’t put our gameplan into practice which we’d trained on all week which was a disappointing thing,” Pett said.

“But if you look at the table we’re fifth and it could be a lot worse.

“You can’t win every single game in this league but it’s so important now that…we look at how we can be better this weekend.

“We’ve tried to make the Lamex somewhere teams don’t want to come. In previous years that was the case.

“Teams didn’t want to come to Stevenage because it would be a horrible game for them and hopefully we can put on a good show this weekend.

“We enjoy playing at home and we will go into the game with confidence.”
