People are being invited to delve into Letchworth’s past with a historic shops tour which launches today.
The Garden City Collection team have devised the tour, which is accessed via a mobile phone app and allows people to view photos and information about the history the town’s oldest shops.
Shops featured include Nott’s Bakery of Eastcheap, which was established around 1915 and is now Simmons Bakery, as well as Beddoe’s of Station Road, the former stationers and confectioners which is now Globe Pharmacy. The image above shows Station Road in around 1906.
Participating shops feature large vinyl posters in their windows with a historic image of the building, and a QR code to scan with a mobile phone.
Install the free Whitepoint app and search for Historic Shops Tour to discover more.
