A petition to try to persuade the Government to axe council tax for pensioners is being launched in Biggleswade town centre on Saturday.

Members of the Biggleswade and District Pensioners' Association will be setting out a stall in the Market Square between 10am and 12.30pm.

During the day pensioners will not only be able to sign the petition but get advice on claiming benefits.

Mid Beds District Council has given the association 1,000 long-life bulbs that will be given to all pensioners who attend.

Next Wednesday, October 11, sees the AGM of the association which will be held at the Biggleswade Labour Club in Crab Lane starting at 2.30pm.
