A PE teacher has pleaded guilty to a string of sexual offences against boys at a Stevenage school.

Michael Fuller, 42, faced a total of 34 charges when he appeared on Tuesday by video link at St Albans Crown Court from Bedford Prison.

The teacher admitted three charges of sexual activity with one 15-year-old boy in December 2004.

He also pleaded guilty to five more charges of causing the same boy to engage in sexual activity, but he denied two other charges of sexual activity with him.

Fuller also admitted five charges of permitting the taking of indecent photographs of the same boy.

He pleaded guilty to sexual activities with nine other boys between January and July last year, but denied 10 other charges.

The court heard from prosecutor Viv Goddard that on January 3 this year Fuller, of Trapstyle, Ware, had changed his name to John Michael Richards. But the charges were put to him under his previous name of Fuller.

Miss Goddard said the Crown accepted that the pleas of guilty "covered the criminality of the case" and that it was not in the public interest for a trial on the charges Fuller denied.

Defence barrister Freya Rowe asked for the case to be adjourned for pre-sentence reports to be prepared on Fuller. But she said: "He knows he is going to be given a substantial sentence."

Judge Findlay Baker QC adjourned sentence until March 14. He ruled that the school could not be publicly named. The facts of the case were not outlined.
