Two community policemen have been commended by paramedics after they helped treat a heavily pregnant woman who collapsed in a fit while shopping.

Jason Hart and Chris Watson, who are both Police Community Support Officers in Stevenage, rushed to help the woman who collapsed in Asda in August.

East of England ambulance paramedic Karen Nixon, who was first on the scene, said: “Chris and Jason did a terrific job assisting me to treat and stabilise the patient. They also looked after her relatives until the arrival of my colleagues. They went above and beyond and were both extremely kind and helpful throughout.”

Stevenage chief inspector Richard Liversidge said he was very proud of the two officers, adding: “The incident demonstrates the close working relationship between the neighbourhood policing team, the East of England Ambulance Service and other town centre partners such as Shopwatch.”

The pregnant woman was taken to Lister Hospital where she made a full recovery.
