A TRAINEE police officer has admitted stealing money from his station.

Pc Joseph Murray, 29, had been working as an eastern area officer in Stevenage during his two-year probation period.

He pleaded guilty to theft by an employee when he appeared in front of Stevenage magistrates last week.

He was working in the property store at Stevenage Police Station after resigning from the force in February and serving out his notice.

It was during this time that £1,000 went missing after he had been given a sum of money to process.

Murray no longer works for Hertfordshire police.

He was bailed by magistrates to reappear at court on Tuesday, July 18.
