CLEANING staff at the Houses of Parliament are to receive an increase in hourly pay from £5.20 to £6.70 by next January.
The rise, which will be implemented in stages, comes after a deal was agreed with the Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU).
It has also been announced that staff will also be entitled to 28 days holiday and sick pay for the first time.
Last year the cleaners staged two 24-hour strikes and picketed the Commons.
Talks are continuing on implementing a pension scheme.
Jack Dromey, deputy general secretary of the TGWU, said: "The cleaners have won a living wage and respect."
Everard Ouale, a TGWU shop steward at the Houses of Parliament, said: "Parliament is a different place to work in, as we are more valued.
