A PARK in Comet country has been recognised as one of the best green spaces in the land. The prestigious Green Flag has been awarded to Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage. The award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

Flags are awarded annually to a variety of green spaces that are welcoming, healthy, safe and secure, clean and well maintained, and sustainable.
Cllr Howard Burrell, Stevenage Borough Council's executive member for children and young people, culture, sport and leisure, said: "Fairlands Valley Park really is the jewel in the Stevenage crown and this award is further official recognition of its importance.
"The 120 acres of beautiful parkland provide extensive leisure facilities for the people of Stevenage and beyond.

The Green Flag was raised at the Sailing Centre at Fairlands Valley Park today (Friday), with Stevenage mayoress Sue Myson and many of the park's staff in attendance.
