POLICE swooped on the Westgate Shopping Centre in Stevenage at lunchtime today searching for two men who staged a daring raid at a jewellers.
The two men, one was later arrested near Stevenage Railway Station and the other remains on the run, had gone into John Lyons and forced a cabinet before snatching a tray of male and female rings worth around 2,000.
Some of the property, say police, has been recovered.
John Nash, manager of the jewellers, said: "These guys came in and just forced the cabinet where the rings were, snatched a couple of trays and ran off towards Poundland.
"No threats were made to staff and it all happened so quickly."
Police say they are still searching the area for the second man.
