OVER 1,000 runners of all abilities are expected to take part in this year's Standalone 10k race on Sunday, October 4.

Hosted by North Herts Road Runners (NHRR), this will be the 22nd running of the event that has become a major occasion in the local running calendar.

Sponsored by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, the race starts and finishes at Standalone Farm in Letchworth GC with the event also including the Herts 10km Road Race Championships.

Organisers say entries are already flooding in with members of Fairlands Valley Spartans and FVS TRI keen to take part.

The race also provides an excellent opportunity for members of the local community to test their fitness and raise money for charity and with seven weeks to go until race day there is plenty of time to train for the event.

Last year NHRR's Neilson Hall stormed to victory in the men's race in 31m 5s with Astrid McKeown winning the ladies' race in 36m 52s.The last finisher crossed the line in 1h 26m 54s.

Standalone also aims to provide fun and entertainment for the whole family and after the main race there is a free 2k children's fun run and every finisher will receive a medal.

Online entry is also available at www.runnersworld.co.uk/standalone10k or an entry form can also be downloaded from www.standalone10k.org.uk
