A TOWN council has objected to plans to build a house close to an historic building.

The plans were to build a detached house with integral garage on land at The Vicarage in Shortmead Street, Biggleswade.

But Biggleswade Town Council has opposed the application saying the plot is very tight and close to a public footpath with inadequate access to the property.

Objecting to the plans, councillors also said the house would have been next to the principal historic and listed building of the town and would be detrimental to the street scene in a conservation area.

But councillors are not objecting to plans for a single storey extension at The Vicarage, providing that neighbours are consulted.

The town council says all comments must be considered by Mid Beds District Council in its final planning decision to ensure guidelines on the size of the proposed extension to the principal dwelling are complied with to eliminate detriment in respect of light and privacy to adjacent residents.
