A record 295 runners took part in the Greenway Challenge, organised by North Herts Road Runners.

And runners of all abilities enjoyed the scenic half marathon route, with a cool start followed by sun later on providing perfect running conditions.

Race director Lindsay Cook said: “This has been the biggest and best Greenway Challenge yet. My colleagues at North Herts Road Runners have worked very hard to put on this event, and the effort is all worthwhile when we see how much people enjoy it.

“Well done to everyone who took part and helped us to raise so much for a great local cause.”

North Herts Road Runners’ own athletes took the first four positions – with Mark Vaughan finishing in 1hr 15min 20secs, followed by Ed Price, Jim McConnel and Darren Sunter.

Unattached runner Gemma Ward was the fastest female, finishing in 1hr 37min 17secs.
