The team at Garden House Hospice is gearing up for next month’s National Hospice Awareness Week and the chance to spread the word about their work.

As the week approached chief executive Sue Plummer spent time with Stevenage MP Stephen McPartland at Westminster talking through the role the Letchworth-based hospice is playing in North Herts and Stevenage.

Sue said: “This year the hospice celebrates 25 years of service to the community and during that time we have supported many individuals and their families.

“The theme for Hospice Care Week 2015 is ‘connecting care’ and Garden House has been fortunate to have a special connection with the local community.”

One in three people will be touched by hospice care at some point in their lives, and hospices up and down the country provide high quality, personalised care for adults and children living with life-limiting illness, supporting them to live life as fully as possible.

Hospice care brings together a diverse range of professionals and volunteers to work side-by-side to support dying people and their families when they need it most.

Garden House supports 700 people each year both at its Gillison Close base and out in the wider community, and more than 500 volunteers give their time to help with care or fundraising.

During the week there will be information stands promoting the work of the Garden House team at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage and other sites across North Herts.
