The deadline is approaching to nominate a local hero for the North Herts Chair's Community Recognition Awards.

Nominations must be in by January 9 for community-minded individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a real difference to other people.

Perhaps someone who has dedicated their life to helping others or recently made a big impact on a person, family or group in the community? Someone who has improved the health and wellbeing of people in North Herts? An eco-warrior or an exceptional young person?

Winners will receive an engraved glass trophy and a gift voucher at a ceremony in early March, hopefully in-person.

Judges include Cllr Val Bryant, chair of the council, representatives from sponsors Willmott Dixon, and Comet editor Anne Suslak.

The categories are as follows:

Young Star Award (19 or under)

For a young person who has contributed to the community - inspired others or given back.

Health Award

Perhaps someone who has supported others to get their mental health on track, or someone who has gone above and beyond to improve other's physical fitness.

Green Award

For a person or a group who has made the community a greener place to live.

Caring Award

Celebrate someone who has gone the extra mile to help their community or to support someone else through a tough time.

Dedication Award

For someone who has dedicated their time on a regular basis for many years to help their community.

Cllr Val Bryant said: “The Chair’s Awards are a fantastic way for the council to recognise some of the special people in the district who are going out of their way to make a difference.

"We know people don’t do it for the glory, but it’s important for the community to give thanks, and it inspires others to think about how they may help others.

“It’s been a tough 20 months or so with the COVID pandemic – which has not gone away – and we know there has been a wealth of community spirit throughout the district with people looking after each other – we want to hear all about them."

The council can only accept nominations for people who have benefitted those in the district of North Herts.
