A BUSY road near a supermarket and railway station could soon have waiting restrictions imposed, in a bid to improve safety.
Herts County Council wants to enforce a no waiting traffic order on parts of Walsworth Road and Station Approach in Hitchin.
People park on the road, either to access the relatively new Tesco Express or for the railway station.
But there are safety fears, and the highways authority, following consultation with the district council, police and ambulance services, says there should be restrictions on the road.
In a notice statement, it adds: “The main problem at present is that vehicles are parking on the carriageway/footway within close proximity to the controlled crossing, access to a provide property and the bus stop.
“It therefore appears that it is necessary to make the order in the interests of highway safety for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road and for preventing the likelihood of such danger arising.”
The authority also claims imposing restrictions will improve the “amenities” of the area.
